Essex Rental Corp. and Maxim Crane Works, LP, announced last April that Coast Crane Company, an indirect subsidiary of Essex, would be acquired by Maxim Crane Works. The development will enable Coast Crane to provide a more expansive product line to a wider customer base, in addition to growing Maxim Crane Works' footprint. Most importantly, customers of both Coast Crane and Maxim Crane Works can still expect the quality machines and services they’ve come to know over the decades, but with additional services, products and branches now available.
Who is Maxim Crane Works?
Maxim Crane Works was founded in 1937. Since then it’s grown to be one of the largest heavy lifting solution companies in North America. By the numbers, Maxim has 46 branches, more than 6,000 customers and over 2,100 cranes in its fleet. Maxim’s service line features bare crane rentals, operated and maintained crane rentals, heavy haul services, job advisory services and much more. Coast Crane’s service line, which includes bare crane rentals, repairs and sales, will be added to that inventory.
What Does the Acquisition Mean for Coast Crane Customers?
Perhaps the biggest aspect of the merger is that Maxim Crane Works will expand Coast Crane’s rental services far beyond its previous geographical reach. Though Coast Crane has been very successful in its role as one of the largest West Coast crane rental operations since its inception in 1970, both parties believe integrating Maxim Crane Works’ full service, coast-to-coast business model to Coast Crane’s existing service line will enhance all facets of crane and lifting services for both businesses and their customers.
What Can Coast Crane Do Now?
Coast Crane stands to become a full turnkey operation, meaning they will be providing crane rental and lifting services in addition to crane operators and full project management and engineering services. Coast Crane will continue to carry its full inventory of crane types while adding hydraulic trucks, specialized rigging equipment and conventional trucks to its rental arsenal.
In addition, Coast Crane will be gaining access to a much larger fleet capable of handling a more versatile array of jobs. Here’s a summary of services provided by Coast Crane following the acquisition:
- Crane rentals
- Crane operators
- Project management
- Crane servicing
- Crane and lift training
- Rigging services
- On-site evaluations
- New and used crane sales
